Bishnupur District Police Commandos have apprehended an activist of the proscibed PREPAK from Hiyangthang Thongkhong today morning.
The arrested activist has been identified as Ningthoujam Naocha alias Dhananjoy (27) of Khordak Mamang Leikai.
According to police, he is likely to be the injured PREPAK activist who managed to escape during the shoot out which took place with a combined force of Thoubal Police Commandos and Assam Rifles at a spot in between Khoidumpat and Pumlenpat in the afternoon of September 30 .
On the other hand, Imphal East Police Commandos have reportedly arrested a couple who are cadres of the proscribed KCP from Checkon at around 11.30 am yesterday.
According to a delayed statement issued by SP of Imphal East District Th Radheshyam Singh, the arrested couple have been identified as Moirangthem Sharat (45) s/o M Irabot and his wife Moirangthem Ongbi Nungshitombi Devi (35) of Khangabok Part-III Makha Leikai.
On verification, Sharat disclosed that he joined KCP in June 2008 through one Nando and Nungsitombi disclosed that she is an active member of KCP and they were involved in extortion of money from general public and Govt officials, etc and motivation of young boys and girls to join KCP in Khangabok area.
In another statement, the SP conveyed information about the arrest of one cadre of the proscribed KYKL from Bamon Leikai at around 4 pm yesterday.
Identifying the arrested KYKL cadre as Khwairakpam Orendro Singh (42) s/o late Kh Ibocha of Chalou, Lamlai, the SP said that on verification, Orendro disclosed that he joined KYKL in September 2008 through one S/S finance commander of the outfit identified as David and he was involved in extortion of money from general public and also engaged in transportation of arms and ammunition from one place to another, statement added.
Slain identified: The identity of the UG suspect who was shot dead by a combined force of Imphal East District Police Commandos and 39 Assam Rifles during an alleged encounter near Heingangkhong in Imphal East last night has been identified today.
The slain UG suspect was one Sairem Kiranjao (23) s/o Thoiba of Taretkhul.
According to report, he had gone out from home on October 9 and did not return back.
In June 2007, Assam Rifles had arrested him on alleged charge of being a member of the proscribed PREPAK.
Network busted: In yet another major success, troops of 57 Mountain Division apprehended over 10 overground workers and one DHD (J) cadre from Maibung and Kepre Area in North Cachar Hills yesterday, according to a PIB (Defence Wing) handout.
The statement said that acting on specific information, troops launched a series of operations causing series disruption in the terror network in North Cachar hills.
Execution of the surgical operation without any collateral damage and inconvenience to public was appreciated by the local authorities, the statement added.
