Imphal, October 11 2008:
The Tidim Road (Keishampat Bridge to Malom Bazar) Expansion Affected Land Owners' Association has decried the act of marking expansion area up to 38 metres (125 feet approximately) on both sides of Tidim road by some Government officials.
According to a press release issued by the Association, the Government officials made the marking when an understanding has been already made with the Chief Minister and the Transport Minister on September 26 to expand Tidim Road (Keishampat Bridge to Malom Bazar) only up to 30 metres (100 feet approximately) as is being done on NH 39 .
A meeting of the association held today at Imphal College has decided to prohibit the ongoing survey work for expansion of Tidim Road.
It further resolved to launch various modes of democratic agitation in case the Government fails to come up with a positive response to the people's demand by October 25 .
The meeting also agreed to extend all possible cooperation to the Government in its road expansion initiative if the Government make necessary arrangement to fulfil the demands put forward by the land owners' association for rehabilitation and assistance to families that would be rendered homeless by the road expansion move.
