NE Exodus: Gaikhangam assures safety

Assuring that there won't be any threat to them in future, Home Minister Gaikhangam today appealed to the students and other people who fled from Karnataka and other cities of India to return to their institutes and workplaces.
Addressing a press meet at his office at Secretariat here today, Gaikhangam said that Deputy CM of Karnataka R Ashoka came here to assure that Karnataka government has taken up adequate security measures to prevent any unwanted incidents and there is nothing to fear.
Besides, emissaries of Manipur government are staying in Bangalore and the government is reviewing the matter closely through them.
Government will ask the Karnataka government to arrange special coaching classes for North East Students to cover up the classes they missed during the exodus.
Parents of Richard Loitam met the Deputy CM of Karnataka yesterday and pressed to speed up the investigation process on the death of Richard, he added.
Speaking about the issue of illegal migrants, Gaikhangam said that government is taking the matter seriously and is planning to take up additional measures to check entry of illegal migrants.
He further said that the government is putting extra efforts in checking crimes committed by police personnel.
In the past few months, crimes committed by security personnel have decreased significantly.
Around 20 police personnel have been sent to jail for their crimes since he took over the office of Home Department, he disclosed, and reiterated that no erring police personnel would be spared from the purview of law.
