Student bodies bat for COVID policy

Imphal, October 20 2020:
Decrying the alleged inaction of the State Government and pushing for an effective policy to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the State, six student bodies viz; AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, AIMS and SUK jointly submitted a memorandum, comprising of 12 demands relating to COVID preventive measures, to the Chief Minister today.
The 12-point charter of demands include implementation of a comprehensive State policy for COVID-19, appointment of a full time Health Minister, formation of State Task Force for COVID-19 and construction of a 500 capacity COVID-19 dedicated hospital within a week.
It also includes ramping up of ICUs and ventilators for COVID patients and ensuring adequate oximeter and medicine for the same patients besides immediate appointment of 100 doctors and 100 nurses as per the announcement made earlier by the State Government.
The memorandum also demanded the Government to disclose the State's COVID-19 related fund to the public.
Later the six student bodies also staged a sit-in protest at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai Community Hall raising the same demands listed in the memorandum.
