TYCM visits rescued kids

Imphal, April 17 2013: The executive office-bearers of Tribal Youth Council, Manipur (TYCM) and The Third Eye (Society for Protection of Women & Children's Rights) jointly visited Observation Home run by Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur at Takyel on Tuesday to look into the well-being, health and other conditions of the 23 rescued children from Grace Home, Jaipur, Rajasthan.

The two voluntary organisations distributed essential materials such as, exercise books, pencils, bathing and washing soaps, towels, tooth brushes and paste each for all the 23 children, the two organisations said.

Moreover, the two teams provided them with delicious food with tribal specialities.

In the past week, these organizations have also supplied various types of essential commodities such as potatoes, dal etc, etc., according to the TYCM and The Third Eye.

"On our visits we learned that certain facilities like recreational rooms and sports related items such as, football, caroms, skipping, volleyball, daily newspapers, Magazines etc.

are required for their health and well-being and for better information on daily happenings around them.

The aforementioned facilities need to be made available for all inmates of the Observation Home," TYCM president Tolkham Maring and Mayori Ruivah of The Third Eye said.

TYCM and The Third Eye appeal one and all including NGOs, voluntary organizations and philantrophic groups or individuals to pay a visit to the place so that these children may get comforted, feel homely and have the opportunity to interact with all.

Meanwhile, TYCM strongly condemns the attack on the students at MK Manitomba Hostel at SoibamLeikai with stones, sticks and bricks by some local mob without any provocation.

"The mob had not only destroyed the residents' properties but also created fear psychosis among the young students.

It is shocking and saddening to learn that out of 18 hostellers, 15 students belonged to various tribal communities of the State.

We want the authorities concerned to speed up the investigation process for bringing justice to the victims.

We demand the authorities concerned to apply Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 against those culprits who have created the incident," TYCM demanded.

The mob should be reminded of the fact that Manipur is a sensitive place where such insensitive and callous act could easily fan communal feeling and result into communal flare up, TYCM warns.

"We appeal one and all not to allow such incident to happen again in the near future for the sake of protecting human rights, human dignity, rule of law, human welfare and peaceful living.

We shall never allow goondaism in a civilized world," it affirmed.
