CEO submits reports on poll arrangements to EC through tele-conference

The Chief Election Officer (CEO) of Manipur and all the District Election Officers (DEOs) today held a tele-conference with the officials of Election Commission of India and submitted reports on the present situation and arrangements regarding the ensuing general election to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly to be held on January 28.The CEO also elaborated on the security arrangement during the conference which was conducted at the office of National Informatics Centre (NIC), Imphal.
In an interview, CEO PC Lamkwunga told media persons that the CEO office received many complaints from candidates, political parties and many individual in relation with the ensuing elections.
If the complaints are found to be genuine, it conducts an investigation into the matter and takes up necessary action.
A complaint of distributing cash was received yesterday.
As soon as the complaint was received, the office initiated investigation into the matter by informing the expenditure observers.
However, the team could not get any concrete report regarding the complaint.
Some police personnel posted at Wangjing Tentha A/C have been replaced as soon as the office received complaints against them, he said.
He also said that a member of Trinamool Congress of Mayang Imphal Area lodged a complaint recently in which, the member also challenged the CEO.
Terming the matter unfortunate, he appealed to all concerns not to carry out such types of acts in future.
The working president of Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress has been informed about the matter, he said.
He further said that no major public meetings of any party to woo voters can be seen this time unlike past elections.
Massive campaigns, posters and flags have been reduced visibly this time which makes the election totally different from others.
Besides, general observers, expenditure observers and police observers are doing their duties well enough to check such activities.
On the security arrangement, he said that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure safe and peaceful poll.
Around 350 companies of central para military forces will be used in this election out of which 220 companies have already arrived and have been advised to maintain peace and have been deployed in various places of the state.
The remaining companies of para military forces will also be arriving soon.
They will guard the interior premises of the polling stations while state forces will be deployed outside the premises, he said.
