Imphal, July 12 2011:
Taking serious note of the fare being charged by the ticket counters arbitrarily, Jiribam-Imphal Light Motor Vehicle Drivers' Union has decided to go on for an indefinite cease work strike with effect from 5 am of July 14 if the individuals manning the said counters do not come up with an explanation at the earliest possible.
In a statement issued jointly by its president and secretary, the Union pointed out that such arbitrary action of the ticket counters has caused conflict between the passengers and the drivers most of the time.
Any driver found plying vehicles in defiance of the cease work call should be ready to face the consequences, the Union warned.
While appealing to the Government to pay attention to the development of NH-53 (37), the Union has also urged all its members to allow passengers going to Silchar in vehicles bound for Silchar only and passengers going to Jiri in vehicles bound for Jiribam only.
