Meet on electoral reforms starts

A two-day conference on Campaign for Electoral Reforms in India (CERI) was opened today at International Youth Centre, New Delhi with Justice DS Tewatia as chief guest.
The opening function was also attended by former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Justice Rajinder Sanchar, Rajya Sabha Additional Secretary Satya Narayan Sahu and CERI founder MC Raj.
Talking to N Noren of The Sangai Express who is participating in the conference on behalf of the All Manipur Working Journalists Union, MC Raj said that the conference is aimed at educating the people of India about electoral reforms.
So far, 17 similar conferences have been organised in different parts of the country, and another conference of the same kind would be held at Guwahati on February 12. MC Raj said that 254 delegates from 17 States of the country are participating in the conference and they include 35 delegates from the North Eastern States.
Altogether 15 delegates from Manipur including CERI North East convenor Dr M Nara are participating in the national conference.
On the first day of the conference, there were three panels and the panellists deliberated on such topics as Contours of Democracy, Electoral System, Proportionate Electoral System, Mixed Member Proportional Representation etc.
