Kangpokpi tops active cases chart with 26

Kangpokpi, June 07 2020: With the sudden spike of COVID positive cases in the district yesterday evening and another case confirmed this morning, Kangpokpi district has topped the State chart of active case with 26 which is one more than Churachandpur which has 25 active cases out of 44 confirmed cases.

Meanwhile, District Magistrate/DC Kangpokpi, Somorjit Salam, has declared containment measures at Presidency College, Motbung where 14 positive cases were confirmed yesterday evening while another three confirmed cases were reported from the same quarantine centre this morning.

The 17 confirmed cases from Presidency College Motbung were all returnees from Delhi.

Earlier, on May 25 the first COVID positive case in the district was confirmed from a Gujarat returnee at BIET Centre, Leikop followed by two Pune returnees at Damdei Christian College, Taloulong and another six Pune returnees at Goma Devi High School, Toribari.

Subsequently, containment measures had already been declared by the District Magistrate/DC Kangpokpi at the geographical areas of all these quarantine centres.

Among the 26 confirmed positive cases, ten are females including a three year child and another sixteen are males.

Mostly, they are between the ages of 20 to 35 .

Meanwhile, SDO Kangchup Geljang, Opendro Singh, MCS had a hard time pacifying the inmates who were demanding immediate retest of the remaining individuals excluding those who had been confirmed positive and more toilets while highlighting their grievances ever since they were dropped at the quarantine centre.

The situation subsided late in the evening and 14 inmates were taken to Imphal for the retest.

The retest will be conducted on the remaining inmates of Presidency College Motbung tomorrow.

Meanwhile, twenty two returnees including a child arrived at the District Screening Centre via Imphal from Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad by flight this afternoon at around 4.50 pm.

They were served free food under COVID Emergency Food Kiosk initiated by ADC Sadar Hills with the assistance of KTC, KWWO and KYU after they were screened by the medical officials on duty.

They have been put under surveillance at SFS Daili.
