Pallel drug haul case of 2013 : Charges framed against former PRO, 5 others

Special Court ND&PS Manipur, framed charges for trial against former Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Defence Wing, Colonel Ajoy Choudhary and 5 others on April 30, in connection with the Pallel drug haul case of October 3, 2013.The Court also fixed May 24 for framing charges against the remaining other accused who failed to appear before the Court on April 30 as well as against those who filed dispense for their appearance.
The Court further amalgamated three different cases of CBI in connection with the case into a single case.
The accused persons who appeared before the Court on April 30 included former PRO Defense Wing Ajoy Choudhary of Pratap Chowk New Delhi, RK Babloo of Top Khongnangkhong, Rajneeskumar of Lucknow, Lhunkhohao Haokip of Langol Games Village, Seikholun Haokip of 5 Avenue Dewlaland and former Assistant Manager of Indigo Airlines (Imphal) and Indigo Security Staff Officer Ngairangbam Brojen of Singjamei Khongnang Pheidekpi while those who failed to appear before the Court and those who filed dispense through their respective counsels includes Dhrubajyoti Das, Madho Das, Utpal Debnath, Banamali Talukdar, Tiken Deka, Ajay Kumar Bhartia, Diskant Goel and K Ananda.
Most of the accused involved in the Pallel drug haul case are presently out on bail.
It may be mentioned that on October 3, 2013, a team of Thoubal district commandos intercepted three vehicles, including the vehicle of then PRO Defense Wing Ajoy Choudhary, Lhunkhohao Haokip, Rajkumar Babloo Singh, Ngairangbam Brojendro Singh and others at Pallel commando check post for frisking and checking.
While checking the three vehicles, a huge consignment of pseudoephedrine tablets which included Respifed, Omkop, Hilcold, Polyfed and Actidin, were found in 33 different bags and carton boxes which were worth a total of around Rs 15 crore.
In the vehicle which was occupied by the PRO Defense Wing, the commando team found drugs packed in 2 large bags, 5 carton boxes and one large plastic bag.
As a follow up action, all the remaining accused persons were arrested by police and the case was handed over to CBI by the State Government.
