Imphal, September 28 2009:
A three-day social service programme under the theme 'Clean Environment' was organized by the Youth Foundation for Fitness and Service, Manipur (YOFFS) on Monday which would last till September 30 .
The first day of the programme was held at Jawaharlal Nehru (JN) hospital, Imphal.
According to YOFFS, such programme has been organized keeping in view the changing environment and the consequences of the changes such as the natural calamities and the man made disasters.
It further held the public responsible for perturbing the ecology leading to the subsequent environmental changes.
The youth foundation suggested that everyone must join hands together in the social service to keep the environment neat and clean and therefore maintain a place for relaxation.
Drawing concern over the disposal of garbage in the only main market of Imphal, the youth foundation suggested that the garbages disposed off in several places such as streams, rivers and in the proximity of the hospitals should be cleansed.
Such step would bring cleanliness in all the places.
Dr JS Konthoujam, general secretary of the YOFFS asserted that the youth foundation has undertaken several social service programmes.
Besides clean environment, other activities such as games, sports, personality development, character building, socio-economy without being biased with different communities are equally important for development, added the general secretary.
He further maintained that the youth foundation yearns for undertaking several developmental programmes.
It would be possible with the assistance of several sections of the society such as the experts, consultants, sympathizers, social workers, scientists, educationists, scholars, stated Dr JS Konthoujam.
