Imphal Sewerage Zone-I to be ready by 2016

Imphal, February 27 2015 : The much-awaited Imphal Sewerage Zone-I comprising of densely populated Imphal Municipality will be completed by March 2016 .

This was informed by Manipur Governor Dr KK Paul in his address on the opening day (Wednesday) of the ongoing State Assembly session.

Dr Paul also said the State Government proposed to implement the Sewerage Project for the remaining zone of Imphal City during the Twelfth Plan period.

The Imphal Sewerage Zone-I project began in 2003 at a revised estimated cost of Rs 323.78 crore and funded partly under Externally Aided Project (with French assistance worth Rs 41.54 crore) and partly under State Plan (Rs 282.24 crore).

The Governor's address further mentioned that the present water demand for Imphal city is estimated at 114 MLD and due to aging of pipes and machineries the present production is 81 MLD only against the installed capacity of 101.37 MLD.

Dr Paul said a Detailed Project Report (DPR) "Integrated Water Supply for Imphal Planning Area" at a cost of Rs 1830.36 crore was prepared and proposed for funding.

Phase-I of the project with a cost of Rs 89.75 crore has been sanctioned by the Centre and works started, he added.

National Drinking Water Programme is one of the Flagship Programmes of the Centre under which the State Government expects to provide drinking water supply to all the census habitations of Manipur by 2019 .

The Governor said that out of 2870 habitations, 53 have been fully covered (FC), 2583 have been partially covered (PC) and 234 have not been covered (NC).

The target for the current year is to fully cover 200 habitations and so far 194 habitations have been achieved, he informed.

He informed that Swachh Bharat Mission is another Flagship Programme of the Central Government and under this, 4,31,378 rural individual households, 3919 Government Schools, 1,201 Anganwadis of the State are to be provided sanitary latrines by October 2, 2019 .

So far, 2,21,232 individual household latrines, 284 sanitary complexes, 3332 school toilets, and 1004 Anganwadi toilets have been constructed, he added.
