As in other parts of the country, Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas (Rajiv Gandhi Renewable Energy Day) was observed in Manipur today to coincide with the 62nd birth anniversary of former Indian Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi.The observance organised under the aegis of District Administration Cell, Imphal West at Nupi Lan Memorial Complex here was marked by competitions for school/college students like essay writing and painting.
Prior to the commencement of the function, a mass cycle rally was also taken out on the streets of Imphal to spread the message of conserving energy.
In the essay writing competition for Junior category, Sahid Umar Farrukh (Class X) of Atlantic English School, Yairipok; Irungbam Ajitkumar Singh (Class X) of Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary School, Imphal and Indra Prasad of Shanti Lata Memorial School won first, second and third prizes respectively.
In the Senior Category, Pukhrambam Jayoti Devi of GP Women�s College, Hidangmayum Superjit Sharma of Herbert School and Khaidem Chibananda Singh of Manipur Public School won the first top three prizes respectively.
In the painting competition, Ksh Rotesh Singh of Shantilata Memorial School; Chitaramba Salam of Don Bosco School, Langjing and Athokpam Panjenba of St Joseph�s High School respectively won the first, the second and the third prizes in the Junior category.
In the Senior category, the first prize was won by Ksh Johnson Singh of Shantilata Memorial School, the second prize by Ningthoujam Ella Chanu of Maria Montessori School and third prize by Lairenlakpam Ranjan Singh of Keibi High School.
Lok Sabha MP Dr Th Meinya Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West District Y Surchandra and Principal of Imphal College Dr Th Thoiba Singh attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
On the other hand, Imphal East District Administration, Porompat celebrated the launching ceremony of Rajiv Gandhi Renewable Energy Day (Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas) today at the Panchayat Bhavan Hall with Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya and Imphal East DC KK Chhetry as chief guest and president respectively.
Around 1000 participants comprising of district level officers, members of Panchayati Raj institutions, students, scholars and general public were present at the occasion.
Speaking at the occasion, chief guest, president and Dr P Rajmani Singh Reader in Physics.
Modern college stressed on the need for renewable energy and conservation.
