Moreh, Aug 20:
Following the suspension of indefinite bandh imposed in Moreh since August 12 after an understanding was reached between the representatives of the State Government and the JAC against the killing of Sunil Agarwal yesterday, normalcy has returned to the border town.
After 8 days of bandh marked by complete disruption to normal activities in protest against the killing of AMSU Chandel District Committee president Sunil Agarwal on August 12, Moreh saw its usual activities today.
All the shops and markets were opened, vehicles were observed on the roads, business activities reopened and all the educational education would resume their classes from tomorrow.
Even as the people of the border town get some respite from the severe hardships endured due to the prolonged bandh, most of the people are still apprehensive of recurrence of violence in Moreh.
Despite the repeated call of different community leaders for maintenance of peace in the town at all public meetings, there are still reports of minor skirmishes and incidents in isolated parts of the town.
Because of such skirmishes, people have their dinners early and stayed indoors for fear of any untoward incident during night time.
A section of the people noted that security forces need to take up all precautionary measures and enhance patrolling activities in all the sensitive areas and vulnerable points.
They also urged the State Government to devise a permanent solution so as to avoid any incident of murder or violence and to restore the erstwhile tranquillity in the border town.
As earlier, taxi (Tata Sumo) and bus services from and to Imphal resumed today.
