The Ministry of Tourism has so far sanctioned a sum of Rs 323 crore for various tourism projects throughout the country during the current financial year.
Out of which, a sum of Rs 82 lakhs was sanctioned for renovation of the INA Memorial complex with the development of tourist facilities at Moirang in Manipur.
Sources from the Ministry said that the Ministry accorded special importance to improve the quality of tourism infrastructure and facilities all over the country so that it could provide an opportunity for unique experience to the visitors.
During the 11th Five Year Plan (2007-2012), the Ministry proposed to continue supporting creation of world-class infrastructure in the country so that existing tourism products could be further improved and expanded to meet new market requirements and enhance the competitiveness of India as a tourist destination.
The Ministry in consultation with the State Governments and Union Territories identified several tourist circuits and destinations for integrated development.
Out of the sanctioned amount of Rs 323 crore; a sum of Rs.1.58 crore was sanctioned for development of Sound and Talatal Ghar at Sivasagar, Rs 4.97 crore for development of Tourist Circuit of Dhubri-Mahamaya-Barpeta-Hajo in Assam, Rs 4.41 crore for development of Mechuka Destination, Rs 5 crore for development of tourism infrastructure near Pakhai Wildlife Sanctuary and Rs 5 crore for development of Gayaker Sinyi Lake at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh, Rs 4.58 crore for development of tourist destination at Khensa and Rs 4.99 crore for development of Tizu Kukha as Adventure Destination in the Northeastern State of Nagaland, and Rs 4.54 crore for development of tourism infrastructure of Nathula-Memmen-cho-Kuppu tourist circuit in Sikkim.
