Rozgar Diwas: Skilling important for employment, says Labour Minister

Rozgar Diwas was observed on Saturday as a part of the ongoing celebration of the completion of 4(four) years of the State Government at Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Konung Mamang, Imphal.
Speaking as the chief guest of the occasion, Labour & Employment Minister Th Satyabrata Singh stated that about 8000 youths have got placement under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana.
He also said that there is a big need for skill-training in the modern context.
Even those who have already undergone training need to re-skill themselves.
Skilling the youth is imperative to generate employment, he added.
Drawing the attention of the gathering, Th Satyabrata Singh highlighted the role of skill-training programmes under PMKVY OR DDUGKY or CMST etc in increasing the scope of the employability of the youth.
Appreciating Chief Minister N Biren Singh's idealism in bringing Manipur to its present state, he said that the visual change that can be seen on the 4th anniversary of the BJP led Government is not an outcome of a single night's work.

All changes and development in the hill-valley and law-order situation of Manipur are made possible due to the ideas, efforts, inputs and sacrifices of the incumbent CM, he stressed and urged all to work together for holistic development of the State.
Chairman of Manipur Building Construction and Other Workers' Welfare Board, Sekmai AC MLA Heikham Dingo Singh and Additional Chief Secretary (Labour & Employment), Letkhogin Haokip also shared the dais with the Minister at the function.
Heikham Dingo said that the Labour Department has been able to provide health, education and other benefits to the construction workers and other beneficiaries under the BJP Government.
In his vote of thanks, MD, MSSD, Krishna Kumar expressed gratitude to all officials present for making the programme a success.
A jingle on Rozgar Diwas, Skilling and Employment Workshop was telecast during the function.
Certificates were also distributed to the PMKVY trainees as a part of the function.
MLA T Robindro, DCs and DLOs, youth and students also took part in the function.
It may be mentioned that Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) implemented by National Skill Development Corporation.
In another event, a certificate distribution programme for trainees who completed a skill development course under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) was held today at the auditorium of National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, Akampat.
Altogether 41 trainees were given certificates today.
The programme was graced by Labour and Employment Minister Th Satyabrata, Executive Director of NIELIT, Th Prameshwor and Commissioner of Higher and Technical University, M Harekrishna as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively. On the occasion, Th Satyabrata said that PMKVY is a scheme of the Government of India that aims at providing employment opportunities to youth through recognition and standardisation of skills.
The Government has provided skill development training to about 20,000 youths out of the 21,000 targeted and certified 15,000 under PMKVY-II, he said and added that the Government is hopeful of covering the intended target in PMKVY-III.
M Harekrishna also spoke at the event.
He stressed that skilling, re-skilling and upskilling of youth is imperative for the economic growth of the State and the country at large and also to bridge the gap between employment opportunity and employability.
M Harekrishna is also the Vice Chancellor of Manipur Technical University.
Saying that South Korea provides vocational education to 96 percent of the country's students and is considered the best in this area, he added that the coverage is quite low in the county (5 percent) but the Government is intending to increase the coverage to 50 percent by 2025 .
Harekrishna also pointed out that the education system in the country focuses little on imparting employability skills to students.
Th Prameshwor informed that about 800 youths have attended skill development training at NIELIT.
Of the 800 youths, 90 have got placement at different companies and 8 started their own business, he added.
Prameshwor further stated that NIELIT is also providing re-skilling opportunities to employees of different departments.
