Imphal, June 03:
Following an understanding between the Joint Action Committee of Imphal-Moreh transporters and an armed group last evening movement of vehicles along the Indo-Burma route has resumed from today.
After an armed group reportedly imposed huge monetary demand from vehicles operating along the said route, transporters had suspended service since May 19 .
A joint meeting of civil society and student organisations held at the border town of Moreh last evening is said to have brought about an understanding subsequently leading to calling off the agitation.
Representatives of the JAC, Hill Tribal Council (Moreh) as well as Moreh and Chandel district units of the Kuki Students' Organisation attended the meeting.
Moreh, it may be mentioned, is an important trade centre of the cash-strapped State of Manipur with daily business transactions regularly tipping the rupees one crore mark.
