Imphal, June 03:
A hill based political party of Manipur has expressed strong resentment over the decision of the 'all political parties' to fight the petition of the Indo-Myanmar Tribal Development Association filed before the Supreme Court on the Delimitation issue in Manipur.
The United People's Democratic Party (Socialist) President Soso Lorho and its General Secretary Co-ordination Romeo Bungdon said that the 'so-called All Political Party of Manipur meeting' on May 31 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh for working out a strategy to fight the petition filed by the Indo-Myanmar Tribal Development Association before the Supreme Court against the ordinance issued by the Union Govt for non-implementation of delimitation of Parliament and state assembly constituencies of Manipur has not been represented by the hil based political parties.
The UPDP said that the hill based political parties like the NNP, PDA and UPDP have not been consulted by the so called all political parties so the tribals did not represent in that May 31 meeting.
It also said that delimitation in the Manipur hill districts is the genuine political and constitutional rights of the hill people of Manipur.
As such the UPDP (S) endorsed our moral support to the Indo-Myanmar NGO's demand, said the UPDP (S) while adding that the purported protection of the ordinance by all political parties of Manipur with legal aid is suppression of hill people's rights which will only alienate them in the long run.
It further cautioned that any action taken on the basis of the so-called political parties of Manipur will be detrimental and counter-productive.
