Assam police have stumbled upon a big Hizbul Mujahideen network operating in west of Assam planning to attack the country's financial capital Mumbai.
According to a high level police source, the Assam Police have tipped off the Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF) and the Maharashtra Police.
A team of ATF personnel is presently in Guwahati following the lead of the possible attack plan.
The police stumbled upon the whole operation when they arrested A HuJI associate, allegedly involved in fake currency and arms racket on May 21 last from Dhubri area of the State, according to the police source.
The source added that acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police and CRPF personnel launched an operation in Pratapkhata village under Fakiragram police station and nabbed Gulzar Hussain.
He was allegedly involved in fake currency and arms racket and had sustained bullet injuries in his leg during an earlier gunfight with security forces, police said.
During search operations, security personnel recovered a 5 kg bomb from a tiffin box kept in Hussain's house.
The police are tight-lipped about the whole investigation process but said that a message has been sent from the Assam Police Hqs to ATF.
