Disproportionate assets case CBI files chargesheet against (Retd) Govt officer

The Central Bureau of Investigation (Anti-Corruption Bureau) has filed a chargesheet against former Assistant Commissioner of Customs (Preventive) RK Darendrajit today in connection with a case taken up against him for owning assets disproportionate to known sources of income.
He was arrested today by the CBI after he was summoned at the CBI office, Imphal and was later produced before the Court.
It may be mentioned here that on December 21, 2018, CBI (ACB) Imphal raided the house of RK Darendrajit (61) at Brahmapur Lalji Lakpa Leikai.
The raid started early morning and continued till late night.
During the raid the CBI team claimed to have recovered gold ornaments and documents related to land and finance.
In the chargesheet submitted today it is mentioned that while RK Darendrajit was serving as Superintendent/Assistant Commissioner, Customs (Preventive), Imphal during the period of January 1, 2010 to November 30, 2018, he was "in possession of huge assets of both moveable and immovable disproportionate to his known income to the extent of Rs 2,13,54,438 approximately".
On the other hand, the defense counsel of the accused filed an objection along with a prayer for releasing him on bail.
The defense counsel submitted to the Court that the accused has been cooperating with the CBI in the investigation of the case and has been making himself available whenever called for till date and that today itself the official of CBI called him to the office of CBI where he was arrested and later produced before the Court.
It was further submitted that the accused is suffering from diabetes and being a retired Government officer who possesses high dignity in society has no intention of absconding and prayed for releasing him on bail.
After hearing both the Special Public Prosecutor representing CBI and the defense counsel, the Court granted bail.
The chargesheet was filed before the Special Court (Prevention of Corruption Act), Imphal East by a team of CBI today afternoon.
The next date of hearing is fixed on October 6 .
