Post plantation festival celebrated at Taphou Naga

The two days long 'Post Plantation festival' locally called 'Pung-Ngi' of Maram Naga consisting of the 4 villages (Katalui) was celebrated at Taphou Naga, Senapati with great pomp and gaiety.
Katalui, a combination of the 4 villages of Katomei, Katomei Centre, Maram Khunou and Taphou Naga of Senapati district consider the festival as the most sacred traditional festival of the Maram Naga that marks the end of paddy plantation and a moment of celebration after months of hardwork and toil in ploughing the field.
The inaugural function was graced by Somorjit Salam, DC, Senapati as the chief guest and K Raisong, president, Maram Union as the guest of honour which was hosted by the Taphou Naga Youth & Students Organization.

A John, president, Maram-Thangal Council spoke about strong bond of relationship between the Meitei and the Maram tribe in the past.
K Raisong, president, Maram Union in his speech said that it is a festival where no one should eat vegetables and is similar to Ningol Chakouba of the valley.
It is also a thanksgiving celebration to the Almighty for the guidance throughout the plantation season, he added.
Speaking as the chief guest, Somorjit Salam said that it is a celebration to build stronger relationship between the kinsmen through feast and traditional games.
The DC also urged all to cooperate with the District Administration in order bring development in the region.
Blowing of the Pung-Ngi trumpet, performing different folk tunes, cultural dances, indigenous games like tug-of-war between women folks, shot put, pole climbing were the main highlights of the day.
