Addressing a press meet at the office of Thangmei-band Athletic Union (THAU) today, JAC convenor Th Chitaranjan raised strong suspicion regarding the involvement of foul in the death of Babysana.
It may be mentioned that Babysana was allegedly found hung to death inside the dormitory of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School's boarding located at Canchipur in the morning of July 18.She was a class VII student of the school and had been staying in the boarding for quite some time.
On the other hand, alleging that there are many circumstances which have raised suspicion among the family of Babysana as well as the JAC regarding her death, N Tomchou, father of the deceased, contended that he does not believe the incident was a case of suicide.
He said that there were marks on Babysana's wrist which seemed to have been caused due to twisting of her hand.
He continued that it is extremely unbelievable that his daughter could hang to death from the four and half feet high double decker bed which is even shorter than her height.
Babysana was also found kneeling down on the floor with muddy legs and the rope said to have been used in the hanging was just a small plastic rope which was tied up in a very suspicious manner, he alleged.
Claiming that the doctors who conducted the post mortem suggested/commented that the time of death might have been around 9.30 pm of July 17, Tomchou questioned how the other inmates in the dormitory failed to notice or hear about the incident if Babysana died at around 9.30 pm.
It is very unusual that nobody in the room heard or noticed a roommate hanging inside the same room, he alleged.
On the other hand, N Kumar Mangang, uncle of the deceased, expressed suspicion regarding whether the school authority informed about the incident to the colleagues and acquaintances of the school Principal first, even before informing Babysana's family members.
He alleged that colleagues of the Principal of the school, including members of the All Manipur Recognized Private School Welfare Association (of which the Principal is the president), were already present at the boarding when the family reached the site.
He also decried that police personnel who were present at the spot even barred them from seeing the dead body for quite a long time on the day Babysana was said to have been found dead.
Conveying that some of the JAC members met Chief Minister N Biren Singh and submitted a memorandum comprising six demands, he mentioned that the demands include commissioning of a judicial enquiry into the incident or handing over the case to the CBI.
All the demands of the JAC should be fulfilled by tomorrow failing which intense agitation would be launched with the help of various student organizations, he warned N Kumar Mangang also said that the JAC will not claim or cremate the dead body until its demands are fulfilled.
