Discussion on traditional dresses & costumes held at Imphal

Lainingthou Sanamahee Sana Pung (LSSP) Kangleipak organised an awareness cum discussion on 'traditional dresses and costumes' at GM Hall, Imphal Sunday.
Art & Culture Minister L Jayentakumar, president LSSP W Bormani, social worker RK Rameshor and Poirei Leimarel Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president Memchoubi attended the event as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, managing secretary LSSP Naochinglen Mangang underscored the importance of the wearing the right attires at the right event/occasion to promote the traditional costumes, tradition and culture.
Traditional costumes/dresses are identities that make a race or community unique, he said advising all to keep their identities intact and promote their culture.
Costume designers and others related professional who are working in different fields including films/cinemas should have good knowledge about the use of the traditional attires and their significance before using them, he said.
Utmost care must be taken while using the traditional attires, he said pointing out that wrong use of the costumes may have repercussion and maligned the image of the particular community concerned.
Speaking as the chief guest, Art & Culture Minister L Jayentakumar emphasised the importance of safeguarding and promoting the traditional attires to advance as a society which has its own identity, art and culture.
Concerned with the changing and adaptive behaviour of the younger generation in their dressing and living style, the Minister advocated that young children in schools be taught the use of traditional attires and importance of art and culture to keep their identities intact.
Many resource persons including Motuwa Bahadur, Lanchenba Meetei, Makhon Mani Mongshaba and Yanglem Biren spoke at the event.
