Solar street lamps at Sajiwa Jail

With assistance from MANIREDA, a total of 20 solar street lamps were installed within the Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa complex today.
The solar street lamps were installed under the joint initiative of SP (Prison) IK Mui- vah and MANIREDA Director, Lourembam Manglem.
Speaking at the sidelines, IK Muivah said prisoners, security forces and jail staff have been facing power shortage problem for long.
Security forces and jail staff have to depend on torch lights in the absence of adequate power supply.
Muivah expressed gratitude to MANIREDA authority for providing 20 solar street lamps to ease the problem of power supply shortage.
The Union Ministry of Renewable Energy has been proposing installation of a 100 kilowat solar power plant at Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa.
If and when the solar power plant is installed, services like door frame metal detector, hand-held metal detector, CCTV camera and mobile jammer could be used throughout the year, IK Muivah said.
