Thoubal, February 16 2020:
Denouncing the hike in the price of LPG/cooking gas, members of the Heirok Block Youth Congress Committee (HBYCC) and Thoubal District Youth Congress Committee (TDYCC) took out a protest rally from Heirok Part II Mayai Leikai to Heirok Bazar, today.
The protest was led by Indian Youth Congress (IYC) National secretary Sarifa Rahman; Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) president, Amir Hussain; vice president, Ng Dilip Kumar Meitei; general secretary, N Mahananda Singh; Heirok Block Congress Committee president, Th Ranjan Singh and HBYCC president, N Dilip Singh.
The protesters demanded the Government to roll back the price hike of LPG cylinder.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had on Thursday had taken a dig at the BJP over the price hike by tweeting a UPA-era picture of the saffron party's leaders, including Irani, protesting an increase in the price of cooking gas at the time.
The protesters also displayed gas stove and cylinder at Heirok Bazar.
Sarifa Rahman said that increasing of LPG cylinder by Rs 149 is "unethical" "The incumbent Government has increased the price of LPG.
This will directly affect the lower section of the society.
This has to be taken back," Sarifa Rahman said.
Saying that there is unprecedented crisis of unemployment and inflation in the Country and on the other hand, Modi Government, by increasing the prices of LPG cylinders have pinched the pocket of the people of the Country, Sarifa Rahman continued that the price hike was effected immediately after the declaration of Delhi Assembly election results as a revenge for BJP's crushing defeat in the elections.
Amir Hussain also lamented that BJP is trying to take revenge for the defeat in the Delhi Assembly polls.
Just because people did not vote in BJP's favour, they are punishing them by increasing the LPG price, he said adding that such decision reveals the anti-poor mindset of Prime Minister Modi.
No poor would be able to refill cylinder at this cost, he added.
On the other hand, HBYCC in association with TDYCC organised a district level launching programme of National Register of Unemployed ( NRU) at Heirok Part II Mayai Leikai to highlight the issue of rising unemployment in India.
The District level NRU was launched by Sarifa Rahman in the presence of Amir Hussain, Ng Dilip Kumar Meitei, N Mahananda Singh, Th Ranjan Singh and N Dilip Singh , President , Heirok AYC.
The IYC said every unemployed Indian can register in the NRU by giving a missed call on a toll-free number 8151994411 .
