People throng Cheiraoching to pay floral tribute to PLA cadres

Athoubashing-gi Numit (Martyrs' Day) was marked on Monday with a large number of people including members from different communities thronging the Chingmeirong Cheiraoching, Thangmeiband in Imphal West to pay floral tributes at the memorial complex of martyrs of the banned Revolutionary People's Front (RPF).
The function was observed in honour of the 7 PLA men who were killed in the Tekcham encounter on June 16, 1981 and the 9 PLA men killed in the Kadampokpi encounter on April 13,1982 .
A large number of persons also paid floral tributes at Kadampokpi and Tekcham.
People in mourning dresses offered floral tributes at the site from 6 am to 4 pm amidst tight security.

A large number of police were seen guarding the way from Thangmeiband Lilashing Khongnangkhong to the Cheiraoching to ensure free movement of visitors and to thwart any attempt by miscreants to create law and order problems.
Till 9 am, visitors were sparse, but increased after 10 am.
Groups of visitors were seen coming in buses and other vehicles to pay homage to the slain leaders of PLA, the armed wing of RPF.
The outfit observes the day to remember the Kodompokpi encounter of April 13, 1982 in which nine PLA cadres were killed by security forces.
On this day, the outfit also pays respect to other cadres of the group who laid down lives in the liberation movement.
The police thoroughly checked all visitors at the foot of Cheiraoching before allowing them to the memorial site.
The identity of the visitors were also verified by the police.
Upon reaching the main gate of the memorial site, a large number of women police personnel who were on duty again checked every flower basket and bags carried by women visitors before allowing them to offer the flowers at the site.
The visitors also offered flowers at the memorial sites of Thangal General, Paona Brajabashi, Bir Tikendarjit and Hijam Irabot located at the hillock.
Later in the evening, candles were lighted at every residential gate to mark the occasion.
The nine PLA cadres who were killed in Kodompokpi encounter were Thoudam Kunjabihari of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai, Thoudam Loken alias Amujao of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai, Paka of Heirok, Pakhanglakpa alias Puki of Keisampat, rk khoiromba alias Gyane of Moreh, Sorokhaibam Kameshwor alias Kanta of Heibongpokpi, Khundrakpam Chaobhan of Kwakeithel Moirangpurel, Naorem Rajen of Kakwa Naorem Leikai and Moirangthem Premkumar of Tera Sapam Leikai.
