Moreh, September 10 2011:
Normal functioning of the lone hospital in Moreh town has been remaining crippled due to lack of required infrastructure even as the medical equipments provided are laying without any use.
Unlike in other hospitals, there is also no separate wards for male, female, child and patients suffering from the highly infectious Tuberculosis in the 50-bedded hospital and treatment to all the patients for different types of diseases is being given from only one room, thereby increasing the chance of spreading communicable diseases.
An inspection team of Hill Tribal Council, Moreh led by its president Jangmang Haokip today visited the hospital to take stock of its present condition.
Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the inspection, Jangmang observed that it is very unfortunate for all the communities settling in Moreh that the lone existing hospital has not been made functional properly although all the required medical equipments are there.
Asking whether the X-ray machine and other medical equipments for conducting operation provided to Moreh Hospital are just for display or not, Jangmang pointed out that one has to go either to Imphal or Tamu town of neighbouring Myanmar even for taking a simple X-ray as the equipment laying in the Moreh hospital have not been utilised properly till date.
Unlike other hospitals in Manipur where there is separate wards for male, female, child and TB and the treatment is provided accordingly, in the Moreh hospital, treatment for all the patients and for different types of diseases is being carried out only in one room, Jangmang pointed out, while observing that this arrangement could pose more serious health complication among the patients.
Furthermore, Jangmang pointed out that the quarters for the security personnel of the hospital should also be constructed within the hospital complex instead of housing them elsewhere.
Supply of solar-generated power to the hospital has also stopped within few months of its inauguration, he lamented.
There is also the need on the part of the staff posted in the hospital to perform their duties with dedication and sincerity, he added, while drawing the attention of the Government and its authorities concerned for ensuring proper functioning of the hospital.
