Imphal, September 10 2011:
While terming the Ibobi led Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government of Manipur as the most corrupt government, BJP National Spokesperson Prakash Javadekar today appealed to the people of the state to stand up for the Lokayukta Bill and press the government to pass the bill like the Lokpal Bill in the centre.
Speaking to the reporters at the party's state office before the team took off for the national capital today, Javadekar said if lokayukta is enforced in Manipur all the ministers would be spending their time in jail.
The MP said that the visiting team submitted a memorandum to the Governor yesterday advising the imposition of President's Rule in Manipur.
"The SPF government is a partisan administration and has lost all credibility.
Not only are the ministers corrupt themselves, they also seem to promote corruption and black marketing in the state," he said.
The BJP national spokesperson said his party will raise the issue of rampant corruption in Manipur in Parliament and demand the implementation of lokpal in the state.
Observing that the issue of corruption and black marketing is linked in Manipur to unavailability of essential commodities due to frequent economic blockades, Javadekar said the state government must acquire sufficient stock of essential commodities and the same should be made available to the general public at a subsidized rate.
Taking serious note of the long and winding queues which has become a common sight in petrol service stations across Manipur since the beginning of August following the general strike and economic blockade by Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) for a full-fledged Sadar Hills district, Javadekar said that the party will launch a signature campaign across the state and submit the same to the Central government.
He said that if the report of Cabinet Minister N Biren's son being in Australia instead of jail was true, the case should be handed over to the CBI to investigate the matter under IPC Section 302 .
When asked about the party's stand on the repeal of AFSPA, Javadekar said that BJP has been supporting the demand of the people of the state to repeal AFSPA and will continue to do so.
However, he said that there have been many unwanted incidents in Imphal Municipal area where the act has been lifted.
The party will come up with a new proposal after reviewing the prevailing situation in the state regarding the act, he said.
He declined comment on the policy of the party for a non Congress and CPI government in the state.
According to sources, the national leaders have met leaders of MPP and NCP for an alliance government in the state.
However they could not meet leaders of Trinamool Congress since its leaders are in
Delhi at present.
BJP General Secretary Tapir Gao, zonal secretary (NE) P Chandra Shekhar Rao and BJP State Unit President Santikumar also attended the press meet today.
