Imphal, April 07 2012:
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has demanded Manipur University (MU) authority to clarify on the controversy arising out of the appointment of Co-Ordinator and setting up of the syllabus committee in Human Rights Department.
In a press statement issued by its information and publicity secretary, Soibam Anil, the students body questioned why MU authority has not yet made any clarification on the competency of the incumbent Co-ordinator of the Human Rights Department and setting up of a syllabus
committee.
Maintaining that the Department is currently plagued with these controversies, AMSU alleged that the said issues are taking ugly turn due to administrative incompetency of the Vice-Chancellor.
It has now become a question whether the Co-ordinator of Human Rights Department was appointed according to the guidelines of the UGC, the press statement said.
It added, there is strong suspicion that the said post might be appointed succumbing to pressures from some powerful individuals.
Saying that it is evident that there is a 'gang' which constantly pressurises the MU authority, AMSU sought identifying such groups and rooting them out of the varsity.
Maintaining that posts for Pro-VC and chairmen of different committees are still left vacant, the press statement observed that such delays offer room to the MU authority to indulge in various irregularities.
It added that AMSU would look into the recruitment process of the Finance Officer of the varsity as well.
AMSU also condemned vandalising of office chamber of Prof Amar Yumnam and stealing of his personal belongings on April 5 last.
