World Health Day observed in state

As in other parts of the globe, Vision Foundation Manipur observed World Health Day at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal today.
The World Health day was observed with the slogan "Good Health adds life to years" under the theme "Ageing and Health" .
Former Director, Health Services Manipur Dr S Ibomcha and President, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) A Mobi attended the function as Chief Guest and President respectively.
In his speech, Dr S Ibomcha noted that life expectancy has increased significantly over the past years with the advancement of medical sciences.
India recorded a population of 50 million elders (over 60 years) in 1991 whereas the figure increased to 80 million in 2001.Moreover, the figure is expected to reach more than 110 million in 2015.However, in Manipur the population of middle aged people, who are the backbone of the society, is very low, due to prolonged armed conflict and various diseases.
