CPI vows to don role of Opposition

Imphal, April 07 2012: CPI Manipur State Council has vowed to voice the concerns of the people as an Opposition party outside the Assembly although it could not win any seat in the election to 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

Speaking to reporters at Irawat Bhavan this afternoon, CPI State Secretary Dr M Nara said, the party would not only co-operate to the Opposition parties in taking up people's issues on the floor of the Assembly but also take the active role of an Opposition outside the Assembly if the Government acts against the will of the people.

Maintaining that the election to 10th Manipur Assembly was not a democratically meaningful election, Dr M Nara termed it as a festival of money and muscle powers.

And it was the reason why the party could not register win in any seat, he contended.

Dr M Nara also admitted that CPI had to bit the dust in the last election as it maintained silence during different uprisings of the people as the party was a part of the SPF Government.

He added that the 21st Conference of CPI was held from March 27 to 31 at Patna.

Socio-economic, industrial, agricultural crisis, corruption and division of class among people of the country were primarily deliberated during the conference, he added.

The conference also reaffirmed to press for repeal of AFSPA and safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur, he added.

M Nara further said that the party also resolved to launch a country wide campaign regarding reformation of electoral reforms.

A 31-member National Executive Committee was also constituted at the conference in which Dr Nara, a former Minister, was appointed as an executive member.
