Imphal, June 03 2013:
Following the arrest of three accomplices in the killing of driver Kumud Ali and the subsequent recovery of 153 carton boxes containing snacks looted from Kumud's truck from Golapati a couple of days back, the United Minuthong Golapati Development Committee has decided to deny rent to potential tenants without genuine identity proof within the locality.
Addressing the media today at the Manipur Press Club, secretary of United Minuthong Golapati Development Committee, Haji Arafat Ali while hailing the efforts of the police in arresting the accused in the crime, said no one would be allowed to rent house within Hatta Golapati without genuine identity card from now.
He said a verification drive would be conducted from tomorrow (Jun 4) within the locality in collaboration with local club and the police.
Haji Arafat Ali further said that the locality has become the haven for criminals due to random renting out of rooms/houses to many strangers.
Maintaining that around 10,000 people are concentrated in the locality, Arafat Ali said verification of the occupants is needed.
He conveyed deep apprehension that the locality would become a safe haven for many if no measure to check their presence is taken up.
He also cautioned all house owners/landlords to take extra care in renting their apartments/rooms to tenants while urging the landlords to not allow any tenant with doubtful identity.
