Two killed in flash flood

Flash floods triggered by heavy showers that hit the interior sub-divisions of Churachandpur district yesterday claimed the lives of two individuals in separate incidents while two others had a narrow escape, according to a belated report received today.
As heavy rain accompanied by hailstorm lashed Thanlon sub-division yesterday evening, three jhum farmers of Bukpi were caught mid-way while returning home, said a source from the village.
With nowhere to take shelter the three, identified as Langchin, 43 s/o (L) Khamchinlian, Kaidothang s/o Tualzapau and Zamkhanlun s/o Lianzakai sought refuge under a culvert but they were washed away by swift current triggered by a flash-flood there, added the source.
Though the other two managed to escape from the second onslaught, Langchin was carried off by the flash-flood that were mixed with soil and buried underneath.
As frantic search by his two friends yielded no result, they informed their fellow villagers about it.
The lifeless body Langchin was discovered late in the evening, after a mass search, buried underneath the mud.
About the same time similar flood hit Thanlon headquarters and claimed the life of one Donggin (50) husband of Zenthianniang of Thanlon.
As communication with the village has not bee restored properly, details are still awaited.
