Imphal, March 29 2011:
A preliminary investigation report with regard to the murder of Irom Rozer by N Ajay, son of minister Biren, suggested that disturbances arising out of teasing two girls riding on a two-wheeler could be the reason behind the shooting which led to Rozer's death.
The findings, however, require further investigation, police suggested while producing the accused persons in the court.
Police investigation into the case registered with the Singjamei PS after Ajay allegedly shot dead Rozer on March 20 around 2 pm, said that the incident occurred when Rozer was proceeding towards Imphal airport along the Tiddim road along with four friends on an I-20 car (MN1W-7482).Ajay and his four friends, on a black Bolero (MN03P-2417) was also proceeding towards the same direction as the I-20 car.
Eyewitnesses of the incident said that while Rozer and his friends were roaming around the airport in two vehicles (the I-20 car which Rozer was with, and an Alto car), one youth in the Bolero car fired upon the I-20 car resulting to the death of Rozer.
During the course of investigation into the case, police arrested Ajay and his four friends as they surrendered before Th Vikramjit Singh, SDPO Singjamei (the IO who later handed over charge to Pushpanjali, SDPO Lamphel).
Police also seized the weapon used in committing the crime, a M-20 pistol, one magazine of M-20 with six live rounds, along with the Bolero and a gun license bearing no.722/DM-IE. From interrogation of Ajay and his four friends, Raj, Anilkumar, Siddaratha and Roshnikumar, police established that the Bolero was driven by Raj and their vehicle overtook the Alto and I-20 cars on their way towards Imphal airport following two girls moving on a two-wheeler in the same direction.
After overtaking the Alto car and I-20 car, Raj drove the Bolero parallel to the two ladies and teased the two girls.
The driver of the I-20 car after many attempts overtook the Bolero again giving light signals.
Ajay who was in the Bolero car driven by Raj shouted at the occupants of the I-20 car.
Subsequently, he removed his licensed M-20 pistol and pointed at the I-20 car, cocked it and fired and hit the driver, Rozer, in the neck.
After the commission of the crime, his four friends stayed together with N Ajay at his residence at Luwangshangbam.
Rozer's death was caused by injury to his spinal cord resulting from the gun shot, said the postmortem report and also suggested it was "homicidal in nature" .
From the investigation made so far, it is revealed that N Ajay had shot dead Rozer by his licensed M-20 gun and that his four friends had extended support to execute the crime, the police report submitted to the Imphal West CJM on March 26 said.
While, praying for remand to judicial custody for the five accused persons, police said that the families of the accused persons, particularly because accused N Ajay Meetei, are "very influential" and as such evidence may be tampered if they are released on bail.
And they are likely to threaten the witnesses once they are released on bail.
Mention may be made that agreeing with the police prayer the court remanded the five accused for a 14 day judicial custody on March 26 .
