Imphal, September 27 2020:
The Peoples' Task Force for COVID-19 (PTFC-19) has cautioned that the State might see the worst case of the pandemic in a month or two if people ignore SOPs and the State Government fails to take up appropriate measures at the earliest.
A press release issued by PTFC-19 said that the COVID situation in the State is alarming as the number of infections has crossed 10,000 marks with over 64 deaths reporting.
Saying that at least 250 to 300 new cases are reported daily on average since the last few days, the committee opined that changing lifestyle is also necessary to defeat the pandemic.
Steps taken by the State Consultative Committee on COVID-19 to contain the virus spread should be made public, the statement demanded.
Urging the State Government to focus on battling the pandemic which has claimed over 60 lives in the State if reshuffling of Ministers is over, the committee further cautioned that lakh of people might be infected if the outbreak enters the 4th stage (endemic).
The State Government and departments concerned should study if the people are obeying the SOPs for COVID-19 and safety measures instructed by the health experts, PTFC-19 stated and added that the Government should introspect why they are also violating the SOPs occasionally.
Meanwhile, PTFC-19 in association with Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur State Branch, Indian Medical Association and Association for Health Care Providers of India, Manipur Chapter and Koirengei Youth League Club organised an awareness programme on COVID-19 at Koirengei Mayai Leikai Community Hall, today.
Ways to wear a mask, wash hands and maintain physical distance were also demonstrated during the programme.
