Imphal, July 20:
All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) today criticized the PR government of supporting the Centres decision of ceasefire extension to the State while it has taken all measures to suppress any movement against it.
Former AMSU general secretary Yumnam Premananda charged that security forces used live besides tear gas shells and rubber bullets to students when they came to deliver their books to the Governor Ved Marwah in a peaceful and democratic manner.
The Government on the other hand allowed some people from Nagaland to enter Manipur and hold a meeting at Senapati in support of ceasefire extension yesterday.
Such action of the government has shown that it is supporting ceasefire extension to the State, he said.
Without giving any reason, the Government yesterday declared closure of schools in the State for two days.
Stating that todays incident took place after students waiting at Shamu Makhong to hand over their books became agitated, Premananda said that the State Government and the Centre should be responsible for it.
He charged that the Governor in collusion with some organizations were working for ceasefire extension to Manipur.
Demanding immediate release of all the jailed student leaders, he said the prolong detention of these students cannot suppress the movement of students against the truce extension.
He also condemned the action of security personnel especially the CRPF personnel for assaulting an ambulance team.
AMSU secretary-in-charge Md Gaffar said that the student body will take strong action against those who are trying to communalize the movement against the ceasefire.
