Imphal, April 04 2023:
Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia has stated that Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal would be upgraded to the level of a full fledged international airport by 2025 .
Replying to a starred question raised by MP Leishemba Sanajaoba in the Rajya Sabha yesterday, Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the Airports Authority of India has set a target of installing all the infrastructure and facilities required at an international airport at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport by 2025 .
Leishemba Sanajaoba asked when the Imphal airport would become a full fledged international airport and whether there was a possibility of introducing regular flight service between Delhi and Imphal at night.
After the Air Corporation Act was repealed in March 1994, domestic aviation was deregulated in the country.
As such, air services and schedules on different routes are subject to the wish or preference of airline companies, Jyotiraditya Scindia said regarding the query on regular flight service between Delhi and Imphal at night.
Nonetheless, the Civil Aviation Ministry has been interacting regularly with airline companies so as to promote air connectivity, Jyotiraditya Scindia added.
