Organic fertilisers distributed to Kamjong farmers

A one-day awareness and training programme on "Pest and Disease Management of Fruit Crops and Environmental Impacts of Poppy Cultivation" was conducted at Phungyar Bazar community hall, Kamjong on April 3 by an expert team of Horticulture led by district officer Kh Manorama, officer-in-charge Plant Health Clinic (Sanjenthong) Dr Roshan Dangmei and agriculture officer (CNJS) Arangba Mangang.
The awareness and training programme was jointly organised by District Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Kamjong and Phungyar Town People Organisation (PTPO), Phungyar.
According to district officer Kh Manorama, the expert team planned the programme after receiving reports of pest infestation on horticultural crops like oranges and fall in seasonal yield among others in the area.
She sought cooperation of the villagers and to inform the department regarding any horticulture related problems in their areas.
During the training programme, the farmers highlighted their grievances to the expert team who offered solutions.
A farmer expressed his gratitude to the department for conducting the programme in their village and at the same time appealed to the expert team to conduct soil testing in the area and to identify crops suitable to soil.
The team also distributed organic fertilisers and pesticides like bone meal, neemkhali, metarrhizium trichoderma, beauveria.
plant growth regulator, etc., and tools including water pump set and sprinkler irrigation systems.
