Hiyanglam AC MLA Dr Yumnam Radheshyam stressed that radio continues to be the most popular and effective means of mass communication amid the existence of various forms of entertainment.
The MLA was speaking at the 2nd foundation day celebration of Radio Nongin 90.8 MHz FM held today at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) auditorium.
The foundation day celebration commenced with the lamp lighting ceremony along with a Pena performance.
The MLA went on to state that Radio Nongin is one of the most popular FM radio channels in the State which has been attracting a wide range of listeners through its various educating and entertaining programmes.
He attributed the success of Radio Nongin to Youth Step Forward Centre, Lamding, the NGO which started this community radio channel.

Radio continues to be one of the most effective mediums of dissemination of mass information and news even in today's advanced digital era.
Delivering the keynote address, Radio Nongin Administrator RK Nungthilchaibi informed that Radio Nongin is a license holder under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Government of India telecasting from its community radio station at Gambhir Singh Shopping Arcade, BT Road.
He maintained that Radio Nongin has been striving earnestly to serve the people of the State in the best possible way.
Highlighting the multiple benefits of listening to radio, he said that radio serves as a companion to many including elders who are confined to their homes thereby keeping them entertained and updated of the happenings around them as well as globally.
It helps a great deal in overcoming loneliness and depression, he added.
He further stated that the importance of radio is acknowledged by all and continues to sustain as an effective medium of mass communication.
The programme was also attended by Lamlai AC MLA and Chairman of Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd; former Minister of Art and Culture Moirangthem Nara; Lilong Haoreibi College Principal Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh (alias Shamu) and social worker and entrepreneur Rajkumar Nongdrenkhomba Meitei as the presidium members.
As a part of the programme, staff and members of the Program Committee of Radio Nongin were honoured with gifts.
