Imphal, November 30:
The State Government is set to acquire 48 plots of patta land at Chingmeirong for the development of the Capitol Project and the axe is likely to fall on seven high rise buildings at this area on security grounds as the Capitol Project will be a VIP and high security zone.
Speaker TN Haokip and Works Minister Th Debendra accompanied by officials inspected the site today in this connection.
The present Capitol Project site measures 600 metres in length and 200 metres in breadth.
The State Assembly complex and a High Court complex are set to come up here and for security reason, the State Government is intent on acquiring additional land of 50 metres at the eastern and western side.
The steps taken up by the Government will affect 48 plots of patta land and seven buildings, four on the eastern side and 3 on the western side including a school building.
However since the question of rehabilitation has come up if the 7 buildings are to be affected, the matter has been referred to the Revenue Commissioner to look into the matter.
Plans are also on to construct a 90 feet wide ring round around the Capitol Project.
As there is also a plan to construct a four lane by pas from Chingmeirong to Iroisemba, Works Minister Th Debendra inspected the route through which the four lane will pass.
The Centre has already released Rs 50 crore under the Additional Central Assistance in the first phase.
Speaking to newsmen, Debendra said that efforts are on to prepare a Detailed Project Report for the Capitol Project.
