TSE scribe honoured for wildlife conservation work

Acknow-ledging his works for the conservation and preservation of wildlife in the State, the Unique Wildlife Protection Committee (UWLPC), Manipur has honoured a senior staff reporter of The Sangai Express, Laishram Shamungou on its 7th foundation day celebration.
The foundation day function was held today at the office of UWLPC Sekmaijin Thongam.
Wildlife activist E Premjit was also honoured on the occasion.
DFO, Central Forest Division, Govt of Manipur L Joykumar attended the foundation day as the chief guest and president of UWLPC N Shyam was the functional president.
Deer specialist, IUCN and advisor of UWLPC Dr Kh Shamungou, OC Mayang Imphal PS RK Anikumar, Principal of Kumbi College K Jugeshor and advisor of UWLPC Babulrengba Mangang were the guests of honour.
A voluntary organization dedicated to conservation of environment and wildlife, UWLPC has been working tirelessly for the last seven years in the State with limited resources and manpower by nature enthusiasts, stated Joykumar.
Such actions from the general public should be supported by every section of the society for conservation and preservation of the environment and wildlife for posterity.
Dr Kh Shamungou said that it is an established fact that human survival is impossible without wildlife.
As such, people should spread the message for conservation of wildlife.
He also stressed the need to provide alternative source of livelihood to people depending on wildlife.
As part of the foundation day celebration, a calendar was also released by the dignitaries and a walkie-talkie service for members of UWLPC was also launched.
