The memorandum highlighted that the tribal students in the State saw the light of the day after years of demand for establishment of a tribal university to cater to the needs of tribal students of Manipur in 2009 when Indira Gandhi National Tribal University-Regional Campus Manipur was established .
It said that though the demand could not be met in the form of full-fledged autonomous university, the Government finally considered by way of Regional Campus Manipur which is the extension of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University based in Madhya Pradesh and it started its beginning by renting structures at Adimjati Complex until it was shifted to the present university campus, Makhan in Kangpokpi district in March, 2017 .
The memorandum said that appointment of a full-time Director for the regional campus with greater financial autonomy is of utmost importance to address the multi-faceted problems besetting the regional university .
Reliance on the head office even for pettys issue every now and then due to geographical and distance factors is a cause of concern creating lots of inconveniences in the success of the regional varsity, it said and added that in the absence of a full-fledged university, the only solution as a stop gap arrangement lies in the appointment of a regular Director .
Construction of hostels and staff quarters, opening of new departments and appointment of full staff and reservation policy are the other demands of the student body and the challenges of the varsity which were highlighted to the MP in the memorandum .
While conveying the failure of several representations submitted to the authority in the past, the student body appealed the MP to look into the pressing demands and address the infrastructural deficits of the varsity at an early date .
