Imphal, June 03 2014:
Construction of the new Sanjenthong bridge is now turning out to be a big challenge for the State Government.
The estimated cost of the bridge which is the key route between Imphal West and Imphal East districts apart from running just South of the historic Kangla Fort and North of the Chief Minister's bungalow is Rs 30 crore.
After deducting agency charges, the estimated cost stands at Rs 28 crore.
During the previous financial year, the State Government earmarked Rs 8 crore for construction of the bridge.
The amount has not been touched till date.
The State Government has been looking for sources from where the estimated cost of Rs 28 crore can be gathered.
Even though the State Government is still unable to locate the source from where the necessary fund can be drawn, it is targeting to complete the bridge construction work before November ahead of this year's Manipur Sangai Tourism Festival.
But it would not be any easy task to mobilize the requisite amount and complete the bridge construction work within seven months, said a source while speaking to The Sangai Express.
