Imphal, February 03 2013 :
Transport and Drivers' Council (TDC) has decided to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the court against Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for causing inconveniences among the general public with inadequate supply of fuel.
Announcing this during a press conference here today, H Ranjit, President of TDC, asserted that instead of filling the storage fuel tanks after the arrival of oil tankers from Dimapur, IOC is using the oil tankers as 'storage tanks and detaining them for quite long' .
This has led to delay in releasing the oil tankers quickly for lifting more fuel.
As of today, there are more than 100 oil tankers being detained as 'storage tanks' .
Ranjit informed that there are no specific rules on how much quantity of fuel should be procured for the State on daily, weekly and monthly basis.
"Some unfit officials of IOC are torturing the people of the State.
With less quantity of fuels procured, people in the State are deprived of their share of fuel whenever some bandh or blockade is imposed", Ranjit contended, while appealing to the Chief Minister to look into the matter and see that that all the storage tanks in the State are kept full and that all the oil tankers are released as soon as possible for lifting fuel to solve the problem fuel shortage in the State.
The State Government and the IOC should take immediate note of the problem being faced by the people; otherwise, TDC would be filing a PIL against IOC in the Gauhati High Court, he added.
