Manipur will no longer need to send food samples to Guwahati or Kolkatta for testing in complicated cases as the World Bank has sanctioned financial assistance for constructing a high tech food testing laboratory in the State under the capacity building project.
Engineers of a Noida based construction firm recently surveyed the area of the proposed laboratory unit at the premises of RD Wing, Lamphelpat informed Dr Th Biren, Additional Director, Public Health (Food) of the State Health Directorate, when contacted by The Sangai Express.
Three food inspectors of the State have already received training at Kolkata testing Lab to man the proposed State unit, Dr Biren said adding that sophisticated equipment would be installed at the unit.
Construction work of the unit may start this year, he added.
He also said that all complicated food adulteration cases would be tested in it once it is established The State presently has one small food testing lab at the premises of the Old Dist Hospital.
However it cannot examine complicated cases of food adulteration, he said.
He further stated all the staff manning the lab at Old Dist Hospital would be shifted there once it is fully established, he added.
Urban Health projects: The State Family Welfare Department has submitted a proposal to the Union Ministry of Health for taking up Urban Health Project in four districts of the State, a reliable source from the Department informed.
