Imphal, September 21:
The Manipur People's Liberation Front, MPLF, the umbrella body of three underground organizations, the RPF, the PREPAK and the UNLF, in a press release today said it would be calling a general strike on October 15, the day Manipur was merged into the Indian union.
It also called upon the people to debate the merger issue which has brought Manipur' under the yoke of India for the past 52 years.
The release said the people of Manipur have since the time of the 'forcible merger' been deprived of all dignity and rights.
The place has also been nothing more than a captive market for India, it added.
It further said more than 60,000 troops of India are stationed in Manipur to help perpetuate the 'Colonial Rule.
It said the extent of oppression and divisive politics is 'evident in the ceasefire between the government of India and the NSCN(IM).
The people's resolve on the issue of the 'colonial rule' under India was also loudly demonstrated in the people's uprising recently.
