Dr Loken retired Professor of the Department of English, MU today said that the need of the hour is a thorough transformation of the system at work here as the whole system operating in the State have sunk to a low abyss.
Speaking at the Public Dialogue organized by AMUCO at Hotel Excellency, the retired Professor said that it is imperative for all to go back to the source of the conflict situation facing the State.
Only when the root cause is identified and the people come together to solve the problems will unity, development and peace occur, he said.
Political consciousness is needed, he added.
FPM president and former Minister Prof Gangmumei Kamei said even if the whole system has deteriorated it would not matter much if the people show responsibility and maturity.
Unity, development and peace rest on the shoulder of the people, opined Kamei.
On the aspect of unity, Kamei dwelt on economic interdependence adding that a shared economy will go a long way in promoting unity and feeling of oneness.
Emotional integrity precede territorial integrity and moral development precede over economic development, said S Sadananda, retired Principal of Imphal College.
He said peace should not be seen in isolation and enumerated that peace can come about when there is peace all over the world.
To foster unity and communal harmony amongst the various communities, it is neces�sary that the people go back to their past heritages, he said.
Only by realizing the past heritages will it be possible to foster a sense of emotional unity, said the retired academician.
Sadananda said the current air of misunderstanding to the misinterpretation of religious teachings by vested interest.

Organizers said the dialogue has been extended till September 24.
