Chief Minister of Maharastra, Vilasrao Deshmukh handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to the family members of Leishichon Shaiza who was knifed to death at Gateway of India, Mumbai on August 13 through Education Minister of Manipur Francis Ngajokpa yesterday.
The cheque of Rs 1 lakh was handed over to Ngajokpa when he called on the Chief Minister at Mumbai yesterday at about 4.30 pm.
Ngajokpa was accompanied by members of the NSF unit of Mumbai.
Francis Ngajokpa also informed the press that Deshmukh has deeply condoled the death of the young woman.
The Chief Minister of Manipur, O Ibobi Singh has also contributed Rs 30,000 to the victim's family, said Francis and added that he has also requested the CM of Maharastra to ensure the safety of students from the North East, especially Manipur.
The Hindustan Times reported from Mumbai that O Ibobi spoke to Ngakuimi Raleng for about 30 minutes on the phone.
