The Women for Culture Centre, Irom Meijrao has become a pioneering social organisation giving guidance to the illiterate womenfolk of the area in instilling self confidence so that they could stand on their own feet and face the travails of life.
Seeing the noteworthy achievement of the Centre, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Imphal have also decided to extend all possible assistance for its growth and development.
Located at Irom Meijrao which is under Wangoi Police Station of Imphal West District, the Centre meant exclusively for womenfolk was set up in 1997.The 8th foundation day of the Centre was held today.
Giving the key note address of the function held at the premises of the Centre, secretary of Manipur Shumang Leela Council Sougrakpam Hemanta said that Centre has given light and open the eyes of the illiterate womenfolk of the area.
Highlighting on some of the achievement of the Centre, Hemanta said the Centre has been able to set up a all women Shunning Leela troupe and the womenfolk have booked a place for themselves in the field of Nat Sankirtana besides helping in various social activities.
Social Worker Amrik Singh Pahwa as the chief guest, Assistant Director of KVIC, Imphal Sanasam Birendra was the president and Social Worker Salam Joy Singh was the guest of honour of the function.
In his presidential address, Birendra lauded the activities of the Centre and said that seeing its dedication and sincerity, KVIC, Imphal in association with the Centre would be conducting an awareness programme on Khadi products sometime during first week of September.
After the awareness programme, KVIC would also consider other possible assistance that could be extended for the growth and development of the Centre, he assured.
