Dubbing the Manipur Independence Day celebration by the All Manipur Students' Union on August 14, as separatist and anti-National, the Government has started taking up the necessary process to ban the student body.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, a highly reliable source said that the Government has taken a very serious view of the celebration of Manipur Independence Day on August 14 by AMSU at its headquarters in DM College campus.
Acting on newspaper reports, which ran the story of the Manipur Independence Day celebration by AMSU, Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh has written to the Principal Secretary (Home) AE Ahmed and DGP AK Parashar to take up necessary action against the student body, informed the source.
Under the instruction of the Chief Secretary the police have already registered a case against AMSU on the ground that celebrating such a day as Manipur Independence Day is against the Union of India and anti-National.
Necessary instructions have also been issued to arrest the office bearers of the student body as well as those who addressed the gathering on the said day, added the source.
The written intimation issued by the Chief Secretary to the Principal Secretary and DGP also mentioned the news story of the celebration carried by newspapers based in Imphal.
In a lighter tone the source said that newspapers are also likely to be made arty to the case.
The Chief Secretary also asked the two officers to take up necessary action to ban AMSU as well as to black list it.
The written instructions also reminded the de-registration of the Universal Friendship Organisation last year for celebrating Manipur's Independence Day on August 14 last year, said the source.
A top ranking police officer informed The Sangai Express that the police have registered a case against AMSU at the Imphal police station for observing Manipur's Independence on August 14.The views and suggestions of the Law Department are presently being sought to take up action against AMSU according to law said the police officer and added that the Law Dept has started gathering necessary information.
However other than registering a case against AMSU, the police have not taken up any steps to arrest the office bearers of the student body or to seal its office, said the police officer.
A case has also been registered against UFO at Lamlai police station.
